Tashan and Craig Jackson’s son Memphis was born with a heart condition but is here today thanks to the team at the Victor Chang Institute in Sydney.
Professor Sally Dunwoodie, a member of the Victor Chang team, has been named in the Australian Financial Review & Westpac's 100 Women of Influence list for her work with the institute.
Mempis was diagnosed with hypoplastic left heart syndrome, and has undergone four open heart surgeries in his first five years.
“At 29 weeks they were lucky to find that he had a heart defect” Tashan said,“It was open heart surgery from day one.”
“The most recent surgery has turned him into a normal five-year-old. He has more energy” Craig said.
This recent surgery was attributed to the research by the Victor Chang Institute.
“The surgeons and surgical practices have advanced hugely” said Sally, head of the Embryology Laboratory at the institute.
But research is lagging behind.
