REAL ESTATE AGENT AND PERSONAL TRAINER
SINGLE MUMS FROM THE GOLD COAST, QLD
Underestimate these two single mothers at your peril.
Best friends for 16 years, these assertive, strong, yet glamorous women are unlike any contestants before them on The Block.
Both models and actresses in their younger years, they have some wild stories to tell but they’re determined to make sure there are some crazy adventures still to come in their lives. That was one of the driving forces behind them coming on The Block.
“We’ve been through a lot in our lives,” Suzi says. “We both needed something like this right at this very moment.”
The girls met on the set of the tele-series Beastmaster and have had some definite career highs. Voni rubbed spit and raw eggs into Heath Ledger’s hair during filming for Roar, and Suzi once did a sex scene with Steven Tandy, or “Tom from The Sullivans” as she likes to call him, in the film Getting Square.
“Living on the Gold Coast, when you’re 20, I was the black sheep, the typical wild child,” Suzi says. “I probably still am. I’ve never grown up. I still like a laugh, I still like making fun of myself.”
“Suzi and I make light of most scenarios and laugh off most things. I think that’s a good way to look at life. If you get too serious, how boring, and no one wants to spend time around someone like that,” Vonni adds.
Suzi has three children and loves meddling in other people’s lives – particularly her best friend’s. She’ll often come over and just start rearranging Vonni’s furniture, organising her pantry and wardrobe. She can’t help but “help”.
Vonni is a fitness addict, ultra-determined and a mother of one.
Both are shocking flirts (Suzi says tradies in toolbelts are her weakness), clean freaks and always have to be in control, so they admit it will be hard to deal with the ever-evolving nature of The Block, let alone the constant construction mess.
“We’re both perfectionists – sometimes it’s a great thing, other times it’s an absolute curse, especially when you’ve got a week to complete a room,” Vonni says.
Suzi works as a real estate agent on the Gold Coast, which she says is a huge advantage when it comes to styling, layout and knowing what buyers want.
The pair describe their style as “opulent, high-end and for the business person”, but still warm and inviting.
While most Block couples are male and female, these ladies say their all-girl team is actually their greatest strength.
“Suzi is the perfect person to do this with. We’ve both got such similar design concepts and personalities. We even put on the same outfits before we walk out the door without even knowing it,” Vonni says.
Controversially, they plan on committing a Block cardinal sin: both going shopping at the same time, leaving no one on-site to oversee the build. They say it’ll be faster than sending photos to each other back at the Octagon, and the constant phone calls.
While they basically have no renovation experience (“I’ve probably changed a few light bulbs and put some handles on doors,” Suzi giggles, and Vonni has painted the odd feature wall) these dynamos should never be pigeonholed.
“I’m planning on surprising a few people. I think there are a lot of people who have, and do, underestimate me and I’m ready to show those people who I am,” Vonni declares.
SCOTT CAM SAYS: “The Gold Coast mums that are just having a crack.”
